Deere could have not had this problem if they would have just put a spring in there to lower engagement pressure. My JD Gator is a 4x2 Trail Gator with the 10 HP gas Kawasaki engine. About 18 years old with about 4,500 hours. At about 2,500 hours, had JD dealer replace clutch and drive belt due to sluggish performance, which fixed that issue.

Clutch issues. Our Deere Rep stopped by the shop yesterday and I asked about some stuff to include the 825i and 550 clutch issues. According to him, there is a fix coming out for the drive clutches on the 825i that will either be a clutch/belt replacement or a rework of the clutch. As for the 550 clutch, it seems the last fix is working.

Set it low. Now, place trans in neutral, lock park brake. Start engine and rev it up to activate clutches. Run wide open for a few seconds. Let it fully come back to idle. Observe clutch on engine.
