Aug 10, 2023 · Hector and Herbert’s lakes are beautiful glacially-fed lakes on the southern part of the Icefields Parkway. Herbert Lake is right next to the road and gets much more attention. Hector Lake (pictured above) is a 5km (3 mi) one-way hike. Although it’s an easy, mostly flat, well-maintained path, it deters a lot of people. To drive the entire Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper (144 miles) without any stops would take about 3 hours. However, you should plan for an entire day if you plan to make stops along the way. It took us 9.5 hours to drive the Icefields Parkway (which included the Columbia Icefield Adventure).Duration: 4 – 6 hours. Elevation Gain: 455 meters. Difficulty: Moderate. Helen Lake is a beautiful lake along the Icefields Parkway that many people don’t get to see as it’s a bit of a hike to get there.
